Stevie Eller Dance Theatre

 

Designed for the distinguished Dance program at the University of Arizona, this 300-seat theatre features excellent sightlines, state-of-the-art performance lighting and full scenic capabilities. The architectural design, by Gould Evans Associates was inspired by the written system of dance notation and the concept of "architecture as choreography". The exterior lobby columns echo the notation for George Balachine's "Serenade". There is no proscenium frame - the house walls become the stage walls, creating a remarkably intimate relationship between audience and performer.

The facility has already been honored by the Arizona and Western Mountain Region chapters of the AIA, the United States Institute of Theatre Technology and Southwest Contractor Magazine. It has been featured in magazines around the world, including L'Arca (Italy), Revista AU (Brazil), The Architectural Review and Stage Directions.
