Moonlight Amphitheatre

Part traditional architect-led design, part design-build, the reconstruction of the Moonlight Amphitheatre brings this Vista organization to a new level. L&B worked with the city, theatre personnel, architects and contractors in the design of a new stagehouse and backstage spaces and assumed primary responsibility for the new performance lighting and motorized rigging systems.

In addition to a new stagehouse, scene shop, rehearsal space and performer support area, the project features a unique cantilevered canopy which supports two front-of-house catwalks and a passarelle around the orchestra pit which recreates a notable feature of the original amphitheatre.

The project design phase originally began in 2001 and will opened June 27, 2009 with a special performance by Broadway regular Brian Stokes-Mitchell. The original construction budget was approximately $6.8M in 2001 and after an expansion of the project, the final construction cost was $11.5M in 2008.
